Ta Arabic
Privacy policy
Ta Arabic is an Arabic reading app. You put a text in, tap a word, and a language model explains it. This page says what leaves your phone when that happens, and what does not.
In effect from 7 September 2026
There are no accounts. The app never asks for your name, your email address, your phone number or your location, and there is nothing to sign in to.
The two plans
The app can be used in one of two ways, and they send different things.
Your own key
You paste an API key from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic or xAI into the app. Requests go straight from your phone to that company. Nothing at all is sent to us, and we cannot see what you read.
The subscription
Requests go through a server we run, which holds the API key and forwards the request to the model provider. This is the only mode in which anything reaches us.
What leaves your phone
| What | When | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| The Arabic sentence being read | Both plans | No |
| A random device identifier | Subscription only | Yes |
| Your Play purchase | Subscription only | Yes |
- The Arabic sentence you are reading is sent to the model provider so it can be analysed. On the subscription it passes through our server, which reads it only to forward it and to count how many tokens it used. The text itself is never written down anywhere on our side.
- The device identifier is a random string the app makes up for itself when you first subscribe. It is not your advertising id, not your Android id, and it is not tied to anything else about you or your phone.
- The Play purchase is the token Google gives the app, along with the product, state, order id and renewal date that Google reports for it.
What we keep
On the subscription, our server stores the device identifier, the purchase details above, and a running count of how much of the monthly allowance has been used. The purchase details are kept so that reinstalling the app, or opening it on a second device signed into the same Google account, restores your subscription with no sign-in.
We do not keep the texts you read, the words you look up, or anything the model says about them.
What stays on the phone
Your library of texts, your saved words and your reading history live in a database on the device and are never uploaded. Your API key, if you use your own, is encrypted by the Android Keystore and never leaves the phone. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Who else is involved
- The model provider you choose, one of Google, OpenAI, Anthropic or xAI. It receives the sentence being analysed and is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Google Play, which handles the payment. We never see your card, your billing address or your Google account.
- Google Cloud, where our server runs, in the United States.
Nothing is sold, and nothing is sent to advertisers. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in this app.
Deleting your data
Write to the address below and say you want the subscription record deleted. There is no account to look you up by, so include the short code the app shows in Settings, under "This copy of the app". Deleting the record ends any remaining allowance on that device.
Children
The app is meant for readers of 13 and over and is not directed at anyone younger. We do not knowingly keep a subscription record for a child under 13. If you believe there is one, write to the address below and say so, and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
